The Birst Appliance is the industry’s first virtual appliance to deliver enterprise-class BI capabilities to customers on premise with the agility and economics of software-as-a-service.
The appliance encapsulates a complete BI solution. Customers get all components of the Birst BI suite: data integration and ETL services, analytics, pixel perfect and ad hoc reports, scheduling and delivery – everything required for advanced business intelligence in one easy-to-deploy, self-contained virtual package.

Comprehensive Data Access
The Birst Appliance combines and supports thousands of data warehouses, many of those with hundreds of millions of records in a scalable multi-tenant environment. With the power of datawarehouse automation customers can generate complex analytic data models with a few clicks from an intuitive visual interface.
Complete End-to-End BI
Birst delivers interactive dashboards, pixel-perfect banded reports and ad hoc analysis capabilities to hundreds of businesses, satisfying a wide range of requirements from a single virtual environment. The Birst environment scales across the organization so business users get a holistic view of the enterprise.
Shared-Nothing Architecture
The Birst BI Appliance was designed to power an on-demand software solution that needs to support a large number of users simultaneously and has the ability to quickly increase capacity. It is built on a shared-nothing architecture and no data is shared across nodes (servers). Each node is independent and self-sufficient, with no single point of contention across the entire system.

High Availability and Failover Support
To support the stringent SLAs of its SaaS customers, the BI Appliance was designed for operation in a high-availability clustered environ¬ment. If a particular server running one instance of the BI Appliance crashes, the hardware/software failure is detected automatically and another instance of the appliance on another server in the system takes over without requiring any administrative intervention.
Global Cache
The Birst BI Appliance provides superior query performance via its massive-scale caching capabilities. Using exact and fuzzy cache matching techniques, the ap¬pliance’s unique caching layer generates dynamic, cube-like cache structures that maximize query re-use, guarantee fast response times and minimize the load on the database.
Simplified Deployment and Upgrades in Place
As a software appliance, the Birst BI Appliance encapsulates all its dependencies in a pre-integrated and self-contained unit. This dramatically simplifies its deploy¬ment by freeing IT from having to worry about resolving potentially complex OS compatibility issues, library dependencies or undesirable interactions with other applications. The Birst BI Appliance runs on any virtual machine or hypervisor that supports the Open Virtualization Format (OVF), for example, those provided by VMware, Citrix, RedHat, SUSE, or Oracle.
